To The Prospective Weimaraner Owner:

The ownership of a Weimaraner is a great big responsibility. They need lots of food to grow, lots of space to stretch their legs at will and above all, lots of love and human companionship to develop the loving temperament has always been their heritage.

Today the breed as a whole is in great danger from the recent population explosion of over-breeding of inferior Weimaraners "with champion pedigrees". To anyone considering buying a Weimaraner we strongly advise you to study the breed standard carefully. Learn to assess the qualifications, good and bad, of both parents, and also learn to assess your qualifications as a Weimaraner owner. Learn how to locate a responsible breeder. This is as important for those of you who want "just a pet, not a show dog" as it is for someone looking for a show-potential puppy.

To the general public, we would add that "pet quality" pups should not be used for breeding. Litters from well-bred parents usually contain only a few show-quality puppies - the rest of the litter sold as pets can well supply the pet-buying public without lessening of breed standards

The Risen Breeding Program

The goals of our breeding program are:
  • To produce healthy puppies, free from genetic problems such as Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, extra eyelashes, and low Thyroids. (These are common problems in this breed)
  • To produce temperamentally sound puppies that are a joy to live with.
  • To produce puppies that excel in conformation, obedience, hunting, tracking, and agility, while being loving family pets.
  • To breed for the purpose of improving the quality of the breed.
